Inuri Liyanage

By the year 2040 a significant majority of Victoria’s coastline and assets would be at high risk from coastal inundation and erosion. In recent months, thousands of people across Australia’s east have been displaced by flood waters where authorities warned residents it was “too late to leave” as floodwaters approached. A Home on Stilts addresses this issue by directly responding to the cause using systematic prefabrication modules. This strategy suggests the evident notion of elevated living but without disregarding the level underneath. Unveiling themes of connection and materiality, A home on stilts grasps the caprice of working alongside water rather than against it.
