Everyone has different objects in their lives that capture memories. However, these are personal and therefore certain objects that are special to you, aren’t significant to someone else. In this project, we were looking at the concept of survival. This is how I explored the survival of memories through personal objects. Head to the website linked above to see the complete exploration.

I completed my final semester through the Monash Study Abroad program as part of the Collaborative Design studio intensive in Prato, Italy. This project took place across 3 weeks.

Postcards: Front

In this project, I have collated meaningful objects from others who have travelled to Prato with me. These objects all remind them of home. These were then photographed and made into postcards.

Postcard: Rear

A written memory of my own is reflected on the rear. This memory was triggered by their objects and the stories they told, linked with an emotion.

Time Capsule

Through creating postcards, these memories have been made into tangible items that can be kept. Placing them in an envelope to be hidden on campus, they will capture a specific moment in time which can continue to survive into the future.

Drawing: Pencils

Drawings were made of each of the objects in a minimal style to form as another method of recording memories. Created for a website (linked above), these drawings and postcards, and therefore these memories, exist and survive in a digital platform in addition to a physical form.

Drawing: Jacket

This style was continued for all 10 objects and used within the website to create a digital archive for each object.

Capsule Location

Continuing the minimal drawing style for continuity, the location where the postcards are hidden is illustrated for later Prato students to discover and continue the cycle of recording and inspiring memories.
