Joo-Hee (Josephine) Yang

I'm a South-Korea based multidisciplinary designer who enjoys illustrations, film making and branding. I have valuable experience as a graphic designer, photographer and multimedia editor in various industries. In my creative practice, I like to harmonise art and design, maximise the visual effect by establishing strong and bold visual languages. My activation project ‘Self Care Checklist’ is a campaign for school, workplace, and community to warn and alert the public about the danger of violence in family and intimate relationships. The visual identity is neutral as the victims of domestic violence could be any gender and age.

Self Care Kit (Primary Outcome)

This is the primary outcome, inspired by first-aid kit. It includes a design research kit (Self Care Checklist), band aids, hand sanitizers, pain killers, and a roll of gauze. White and orange are used as the primary colours with the distorted tile pattern on the front cover of the kit. The objective of this kit is providing essential and commonly used items and treatments to remind the audience to take care of themselves in daily life, not just their physical health, but also their mental wellbeing.

Self Care Checklist (Design Research Kit)

This is the design research kit, which is inspired by the band aid package because lots of victims of the abusive relationship often choose to cover their physical and mental scars with band-aids and false comforts instead of proper treatments and help. The research includes early warning signs of abuse and statistics in order to address the audience to be able to review and check the relationships around them.

Self Care Phone Cases

One of the secondary outcomes are these phone cases that will remind the audience of this campaign in their everyday life. They are designed in vintage collage aesthetic which goes along with the visual identity of the campaign. In addition, they present important messages about protecting themselves and preventing any kind of violence and abuse in family and intimate relationships.
