Hi, I’m Kristy! I enjoy creating thoughtful and conceptually-driven design solutions that have a strong and lasting imapct across identity, print, and digital matter. My Activation studio project is centered around privacy and surveillance concerns of media and technology that is increasingly invasive and leading us towards a potentially Orwellian future. With a book making media theory accessible to the general public and a snapshot of Orwellian media technologies in 2022, this campaign aims to inform audiences and empower through knowledge.

Towards an Orwellian Future

A book titled 'Towards an Orwellian Future: A snapshot of present and emerging Orwellian media technologies' structured in two parts. The first simplifies media theories and academic perspectives providing the foundation for why this topic is of concern. The second outlines a series of Orwellian media technologies in 2022. (50pp, 185x250mm)

Towards an Orwellian Future: Design Research Kit

A design research kit (DRK) created and sent out to participants to gauge opinions about Orwellian media technology. It features a series of activities that invites participants to contemplate their perspectives on the topic including a questionnaire, draw a line to represent our trajectory, plot the points to indicate motives of stakeholders, and a word association. These results were used to inform the overall campaign. The DRK is an A5 double-sided 4 page accordion fold.

Towards an Orwellian Future: Microsite

Whilst the book is a comprehensive overlook of Orwellian media, this microsite intends to function as a regularly updated online archive of Orwellian media technologies. It is structured simply, including only the archive, information on how to purchase the book, a description of this campaign, and a form that can be submitted to contribute to the archive.

Towards an Orwellian Future: Redaction Tape

A roll of tape that has 'Towards an Orwellian Future' branding hidden amongst the glitchy design printed on. This idea explores the lack of transparency from social media platforms and media companies towards their users, further pushing the boundaries of privacy and surveillance. This may be used as packing tape, decorative tape, or even to cover the camera of your laptop.
