This campaign is based around the concept of safe travel, ensuring everybody can travel while also certifying at risk groups are aware of the danger they may face in certain countries. As a young gay man, I have an immense passion for travel and do not intend on letting my sexuality inhibit my future travels, although I feel it is unintelligent to simply travel and act blind to the added dangers an LGBTQIA+ person can face if they act in a compromising way. This campaign is a way to promote locations which could be considered uncomfortable for a gay person. In this campaign, I have created two LGBTQIA+ travel guide booklets, a billboard, and an Instagram grid.

Mock-up Morocco

This is the book cover and final two pages of the ‘Morocco edition’ of Expedition Queer. I used vibrant colours which subtly identify the country which is being covered. These colours are continued throughout the booklet to create cohesion and flow, they also aid in identifying which edition of the campaign the book belongs to. The simplicity of the layout and typographic elements ensures viewers can easily identify key points quickly, rather than this becoming a long read. It furthermore keeps the tone upbeat but serious, this achieved through mainly typography and images.

Mock-up Kenya

Within these two vital pages of the ‘Kenya Edition’ of Expedition Queer, the laws, and risks of travelling to Kenya as an LGBTQIA+ person are outlined. This is the most important aspect of the campaign as it is the section where viewers can truly decide whether they are comfortable or not with the risks and ways to mitigate risk. The imagery in these booklets has been colour matched to the primary colour of that edition, this takes the focus away from the images, placing more importance on the typographic elements present on the page.

Mock-up Billboard

It was important to create a large format design for this campaign to spread awareness of the campaign if it were to be fully scaled. The use of imagery further enhanced the LGBTQIA+ narrative I have created and foreshadowed the content which is covered in the booklets. It is contextualised in a train station but would be as applicable in an airport or any transport hubs, this is where I feel it will reach its target audience the best.

Instagram Grid

This is an Instagram grid for the Expedition Queer campaign. I have used both type and image to convey the message of this campaign and have exaggerated the travel theme by including several images from Kenya and Morocco, these images have also followed the colour coded system which references the booklets in the campaign. The aim was to create cohesion following on from the booklet, thus people who were enticed by the Instagram may recognise the booklets in a public forum.
