Wei Yan (Noelle) Chan

Hi, I’m Wei Yan (Noelle)! Passionate about creating visual arts and providing creative solutions, my work extends across digital works, prints, branding and illustrations. Stress is our body’s physical, mental and emotional response to an external source. Often, it’s described as a feeling of tension. (A mental or emotional state of being stretched tight). “Campaign: Stress and Tension” is a project that strives to explore and spread awareness of the perception, limits and management of stress among young adults. The project consists of an interactive installation, an instruction tri-fold manual, and 3 promotional poster series.

Interactive Installation

To mimic how people react to stress both emotionally and physically, rubber bands are used as a representation of a person. Similar to how a person gets stretched out with an increasing amount of stressors, the rubber bands reflect the idea of tension and strain when pulled.

Interactive Installation

With the rubber bands given, users are to hook them according to the stressors that relate to them. When stretched to their maximum capability, the rubber bands would snap. The idea explores and spreads awareness of how an overwhelming amount of tension or strain might affect us. All rubber bands would then be left as part of the installation.

Instruction Manual

The campaign instruction manual is a supportive outcome hung on the side of the installation for easy access. The tri-fold manual contains information and instructions on how to interact with the installation.

Instruction Manual

Photography was used to provide a clearer understanding of the installation and some advice were given in terms of stress management.

Design Research Kit and Poster

The design research kit kickstarts the campaign’s process by researching and gathering actual responses from people. My kit consists of an A4 booklet and stickers that allow users to provide their insights on how stress affects them etc. Responses are then gathered and summarized into an A1 poster as shown above.

Promotional Posters

The 3 posters aim to promote the campaign through the use of bright colors, brief information and eye-catching visuals. Through a visually bold promotional poster series, viewers would be more intrigued and willing to interact with the campaign.
