DRelif is a type of home massage therapeutic instrument that is committed to synchronic relief of mental stress, and the physical pain caused by mental tension in daily life. By holding the handheld part 'Translator' to make the action (for example: grasp, pinch, knead, etc.), through the bio-signal processing algorithm technology feedback to body part 'Output', timely to the user's specific body parts for the same actions massage. Additionally aim at increasing the experience and fun value of home massage, and provide self-customising and personalising massage skills.
Design overview
DRelif - a new choose of home massage. This is a set of product involves two parts: handheld part ‘Translator’ which also a main controller, and body support part ‘Output’ is a functional pillow-like massager, they are interconnected but separately work for users.
Sketch in context
I considered different scenarios that the product will be applying, and recorded some hand gestures during the observation phase, which provided me with ideas for the design. Furthermore, because there will be some different force points, the design also provides the patterns that can sense the forces and positions.
‘Translator’ details
‘Translator’ is the handheld part, the size provides in here is 115mm (L) x 45mm (W) of left side surface, and 50mm (W) of right side surface. The sloping surface is for more area of contact when held in hand. ‘Translator’ is to receive the strength and hand motions from user, and transmit to ‘Output’.
‘Output’ details
‘Output’ is a functional pillow-like massager with soft fabric and sponge. The size in here is 400mm (L) for top layer / 278mm (L) for bottom layer x 100mm (W). ‘Output’ provides head supporting area, neck-around area and shoulder-around area in bottom which are also the actions feedback areas.
Design in use
Here is the image demonstrating how the product applies in scenario. Soft and harmless materials were chosen for both parts. Sizes will be adjusted to suit requirements, the size in this image are set to my body standards and are not unique.
