Solar Sip is a portable, low-cost, desalination water bottle. Using simple, proven, and effective thermal desalination technology, the bottle will be able to provide the user with fresh and clean water anywhere they go. While it can be used as a survival tool, Solar Sip was developed to make a larger impact. It has been created to help relieve the pressures on individuals and communities that stem from a lack of potable water globally.

Solar sip's design

Solar Sip was design to remove salt and other impurities from seawater. Unlike reverse osmosis filters which produce leftover brine that is harmful to marine life, the thermal desalination process not only kills all the pathogens in the water but leaves only dry minerals behind. These salts can be used for other purposes such as food preservation and flavoring.

Solar sip - how does it work?

Solar Sip is a self-contained, portable, and easy to use device. All the user has to do is charge the battery by placing the bottle in a sunny area, fill the bottom compartment with salt water, turn the bottle on and wait till there is sufficient water to drink. After all the water has evaporated and been converted to fresh water, the bottle will automatically switch off, and the user can clean, refill and repeat the process.

Solar Sip comes with a carrying bag for convenience whilst transporting it about. It also comes with a scraper to remove the residual minerals from the bottom chamber for easy cleaning.

.The device is covered in durable, photovoltaic solar cells which renewably convert solar energy into electrical energy. This energy then passes through a heating coil in the base of the bottle which heats the water in the bottom compartment, converting it to steam. The steam then rises into a cooling coil where it condenses and fills the bottle’s top compartment with pure, clean water.
