PROJECT NAME: Tortoise Shell House - Suitaloon Reboot PROJECT BRIEF: The town you live in has been devastated by an unfortunate incident. This catastrophic event's cause and precise nature are unclear. However, you are unable to access the internet, phone services are down, and all public transportation is currently suspended. Local officials who have not given a justification and won't respond to the public have barricaded and taken control of your typical residence. You have no choice but to build a shelter for yourself outside. After a lengthy search, you discover a large number of used inner tubes from bicycle tyres in the vicinity of a bike shop. In addition, you discover a collection of soft plastics (such as plastic bags and wrapping), as well as a few abandoned ratchet straps.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION This piece was influenced by the Mannheim Multihalle. It is translated into a turtle shell-like mesh shelter that I have created. A rather sturdy structure, the turtle shell is ideal for habitation since it provides people with a sense of security. Near the disaster site, there are a lot of broken items, and the local resources, such as branches and plastic, can be used to construct various elements. The shelter is close to Building F on the Monash Caulfield campus, close to the grass and trees, and the area is well- concealed.
In the spirit of reconciliation Monash University acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
