As a final year Spatial Design student, I have been accumulating an array of skills over the past three years. In that time, my practice has developed a deeper level of environmental concern and personal welfare for my clients. When designing, I seek to minimize the impact the materials and construction will have on the environment.

I am using play to ask the question about social constructs and the future of play in the kitchen. I am asking people to consider what the future of a kitchen might look like. The kitchen space has evolved over the last 100 years, and it will evolve again. The one thing that hasn’t evolved along with the kitchen is the social structure of the modern family household. Using mycelium for this design meant that the speculative design was able to destroy the social constructs without destroying the environment.
Foody View - cool storage section.
Made out of baked mycelium and corn husk powder, this is a self insulating bowl. A cover sits out of view protecting the food from the direct sunlight. This will mean that users do not need to bring their own food storage, instead they only need their ingredients and some ice.
It's a playground too?!
The circular kitchen, plus its varying sizes, were designed to make it an inclusive space for all. That meant designing for all users - allowing children to continue having fun and exploring the parts of the kitchen that are safer from heat.
Chopping, cutting and slicing...
Being a flat surface, plus a inward-rounded section, this bench is the perfect space and height for everyone to get involved in the preparation of the ingredients. Located next to the grill, food can easily be transported from the bench over to the pot or pan. It is sitting at a decent height whereby older children and adults can comfortably clean and prepare all the ingredients.
