Mental illness blooms within our generation, like weeds creeping through the cracks. To each it is experienced differently, some create walls to protect themselves, others have networks in place and some just cease to exist at all. But for those who spiral downwards, there are times in between, where relief is gained for fleeting moments. And for me, that is in the outdoors. So there became this search for places that were quiet enough on the outside, that made it possible to find quiet on the inside. Through the use of black and white analogue photography, this body of work explores the relationship between ‘space and serenity' as a self reflective illustration.
In the spirit of reconciliation Monash University acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
