Brianna Oldmeadow

My work and practice explores the everyday routine and tasks while also highlighting the uniqueness found in those rituals. I primarily work with film and sound, but also delve into other mediums such as digital art and drawing. This series of works is inspired by my own experience getting to work and seeing other people do the same, while also acknowledging that each person has unique lives. The gathering of the coffee dockets is a symbol of this individuality, as there are so many different orders to start the day. I have a mix of feelings about the everyday - frustration, comfort, boredom, curiosity - but I leave it vague in my works so that the viewer may make their own judgements.

An Empty Train Seat

Photo of a Metro train seat, empty. This seat is often filled with people on their way to work, events and errands, but in this moment, it is empty. The people who take this seat may be headed the same way but they have different targets - think about the people you travel with on the rails, the roads, the footpaths, and what they might be doing in their day.

A Box of Coffee

A photo of a plastic container, holding and surrounded by coffee order dockets. I collected these from a cafe I am familiar with, and they span several days and hours, from the morning to the afternoon. They have different names or table numbers, and many different and unique orders. Think you could find something you would get? What would be your usual order before heading to work or school?

'Documentation of Sorting'

This is short series of clips I took while sorting the coffee dockets. It is a part of a larger film, as well as secondary to my main film that will be shown. It is a showcase of some of the process of making my works, and also links as the work I am travelling to do. I spent a lot of time organising and sorting the dockets into piles - each into their own day as well as chronologically - so that I can arrange them later. I liked reading some of the orders and the names to go along with them since there is such variety.
