Iona explores ideas surrounding the body, abject, feminist & queer art theory through process abstraction oil paintings on large fabrics. Iona blurs inside and outside of body experience, charged elements and internal lifeworlds through the processes of materials. Found objects, mixed media and oil paint are gesturally expressed on a large scale where many things are able to exist. The artist layers these painted elements, interrogates and connects the landscape through colour and form.
In the spirit of reconciliation Monash University acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
