Shreya Mishra

The artist performs an act of layering, concealing, tracing and piecing. Abstracting representations of her family, she explores familial tensions, intergenerational trauma and ideas of diasporic identity. The disfiguration of family members create a complex aesthetic, alluding to the artist’s presentation of her family dynamic. Patch-working to reference the idea of a quilt, the artist likens her domestic, existential practice of self-reflection to the act of getting into and out of bed every day. The transparency of the paper reflects the artists’ oscillation in a liminal space, where she wants to be vocal about her experiences but is hesitant to because of misinterpretation.
