Batscape is a social housing located in the corner between Grattan St and Bouverie St, the concept of this building is driven by the flora (Eucalyptus Red gum), fauna (Grey headed flying fox) and human as well as the idea of "Community at the heart" that leads everyone to the middle to commute, this apply to both exterior wise and interior wise as well.

Community at the Heart

This image is showing how the community come together, with all the stakeholder in place, the grey headed flying fox, the red gum tree and humans in various ages, teenagers, adult, and toddlers.

Community at the heart (interior)

This image is showing another idea of community at the heart, however this time it is interior wise. The idea is having the bedrooms surrounding this communal space in the middle, following the design language of the exterior with the heart in the middle.

Main entrance

This image is showing the main entrance or the main hallway, an outdoor hallway which shows the two part of the building, the library and the lounge, straight in the middle is the heart of the building where everything is directed to.

Floor plans

This 4 sets of floor plans are showing the different orientation and shape of the building every for each level, originally I acknowledge that the site is starting to miss the sense of community, a place where everyone (animals and plants included especially native ones) could gather together due to the impact of colonization, which drives this concept of "Community at the heart". My floor plans are made to oppose the action of colonization where every colonial building could be placed all around the world by taking away their culture, by giving different orientation and shape to the floor stated and by bringing back the native floras and faunas.
