Monash Art, Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition 2023

This project proposes a gallery on the corner of Gertrude and Smith Street in Fitzroy. The concept draws attention to the storage of art, particularly assets stored in free ports. Inspired by MVRDV's "Depot Boijmans van Beuningen", the majority of the exhibited art will remain in the format of storage racks, an ironic way of exhibiting art.

It will be a gallery that provides ample space to exibit art to the public, yet is within a built form that exudes a brutalist style that plays into the narrative of the fortresses that store art away within free ports. Every aspect of this concept aims to convey a message. The stark absurdity of hoarding art. It’s a satire played out in architecture, a critique on the very practices it embodies.
