Fitzroy Contemporary Art Gallery Elevation View
The gallery seamlessly blends into the street front of Fitzroy with strong ground floor connection, utilising public programs and transparency of materials. The transition from the public space to the gallery is gradual, erasing the boundaries between what is public and gallery.
The Gallery as A Civic Space
The gallery as a civic space transcends the conventional notion of a traditional art institution. It is more than just a repository of art; it's a catalyst for community engagement, a place for dialogue, reflection, education, and artistic expression, fostering a vibrant and inclusive hub where creativity and culture converge.
Ground Floor + First Floor Plan
The gallery's interwoven art spaces challenge the traditional notion of a static, viewing-only space. It becomes a living canvas, allowing visitors to not just witness but actively engage in the artistic process. At the core of this design is the celebration of art as a journey, not a destination, where creation and contemplation are seamlessly interwoven.
Interior Perspectives #1
Art is not static, and neither should its surroundings be. The gallery acts as a canvas where light, material, and architecture coexist to create atmospherically diverse spaces that can accommodate different artworks and mediums.
Beyond its role as an art space, the gallery is a reflection of Fitzroy's diverse culture and community. It serves as a mirror to the vibrant, multicultural essence of the neighborhood. By integrating elements of local culture, art, and history, the gallery becomes not only a place to view art but a living embodiment of the community it represents, fostering a sense of belonging and shared identity.
