Monash Art, Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition 2023

The Vitalex Gallery is my conceptual architectural endeavour, seeks to redefine the boundaries between art and architecture in a vibrant urban setting at the Fitzroy district - an area filled with a rich historical and artistic ambiance, surrounded by numerous thematic buildings and events related to art and art museums, allowing the architectural theme to seamlessly blend into the environment. Informed by the avant-garde design philosophy explored in 'Anti-Object' by Kengo Kuma, my project transcends conventional notions of gallery spaces.

Exhibition Area 1

This picture displays the illumination of indoor lighting in the gallery and its impact on the indoor ambiance. It highlights the contrast between the obscured sections behind the displayed wall and the relatively open space.

Internal view

This image illustrates how the indoor gallery provides a view of the outdoor scenery through its floor-to-ceiling windows. The purpose is to offer a "breathing point" for the enclosed architectural environment, serving as a transition point for the atmosphere.

Balcony view

This image depicts the outdoor space accessible on the building's highest level (4th level), showcasing an open green area beyond the enclosed gallery space. The intention is to transform the mood of visitors by providing a sense of open space as a culmination of their journey.

External View

This image showcases the overall exterior of the building and the role it plays during the night. Beyond its regular daytime operating hours, the gallery building utilizes almost every window as nighttime display windows, featuring some of the exhibits. This not only complements the surrounding nighttime businesses in Fitzroy but also serves as a promotional tool for the gallery and its exhibits.
