Throughout my time studying architecture I have been challenged to look beyond the building as a structure to relate to other forces, ethical considerations and impacts. Using the lens of design for more than architecture as an idea, into designing for more than humans such as animals and plants, designing for the communities wants and needs, designing for disaster and the planet have become fundamental considerations on which I base my designs.

Glenreagh Community Hall for Everyday Mode

Through a process of co-creation and participatory methods with community groups, it was identified that food security is a major concern for many members of the community. By making alterations to the existing community hall the design is able to open up food storage and production facilities to the public in an existing loved location.

Glenreagh Community Hall for Resilience Mode

The Community Hall design expands on food security measures by including a UHF radio station, flood and fire emergency equipment storage, and general upgrades to the facilities to become a response hub in case of disaster.

Glenreagh Community Hall Elevations

Opening the side and accessible back of the Community Hall building with glazing and large doors, reinforces ideas of a facility which is owned and operated by the public at all time. This architecture gesture aims to reshape how the community interacts and uses a Community Hall, from a lock and key building to an accessible resource for everyone.

Glenreagh Community Hall Construction

The Community Hall upgrades are specific changes made to the existing building in achievable stages with local contractors. Minimal impact on the existing structure has been designed to be a cost effective solution to issues brought up by the community during the co-creation workshops held on Country.
