I am currently pursuing a Masters degree in Urban Planning and Design. My background in Architecture helps me bring a unique perspective allowing me to approach urban planning and design with creativity and precision. I have a keen interest in 20-minute neighbourhoods, public transport, affordable housing, and the promoting active modes of transport through innovative urban development projects. My objective is to obtain a deeper understanding of the process involved in creating neighbourhoods and cities that are safe, dynamic and sustainable.
A context map of the Deans Creek Precinct
A context map of the Deans Creek Precinct, illustrating the catchment area and the current developments situated at distances of 800 m, 1500 m, and 2000 m from the proposed public open space in the central precinct.
Proposed Recreation Centre Plan
The recreation centre comprises football ovals, tennis courts, netball courts, a pavilion and an indoor sports centre. The proposed indoor sports centre will feature a swimming pool, recreational game zone, badminton courts, and a gym. This space is conveniently accessible through pedestrian, cycle, and vehicular routes. It is also seamlessly connected to a passive recreation link along the creek and the neighbourhoods. Internal pathways facilitate pedestrian and emergency vehicular movement only. Vehicular access and parking facilities are strategically placed along road networks, restricting vehicular access within the area.
Proposed Stormwater Harvesting Plan
The wetland is designed to capture and treat stormwater from nearby neighbourhoods, storing it for irrigating the open space. This passive irrigation system safeguards local biodiversity and ensures treated stormwater enters the creek. Moreover, the sports fields can remain green throughout the year, contributing to community health and well-being by encouraging outdoor activities and recreation.
Proposed Passive Recreation Link
The passive recreation link spans from the northern to the southern precinct, along with the biodiversity corridor, enhancing the creek trail experience. This link network is proposed to extend into the existing development of Colac, offering opportunities for ongoing expansion and future growth.
