Monash Art, Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition 2023

When it comes to design, I empathise with David Ogilvy's philosophy, "give me the freedom of a tight brief." I possess a complex blend of logic and creativity, which speak to my design work - always meeting required criteria with creative solutions. This amalgamation of my mind is precisely why I love wit in design. I am particularly drawn toward branding and merchandise, but have experience in all kinds of communication design, such as publication, website, user experience, illustration, video editing, and animation. I believe good design can always be justified through process, and the value of playfulness/experimentation should never be overlooked.

FunFellows

FunFellows originated with the idea of having fun in adulthood, or more particularly, the common lack thereof due to responsibilities and limited time. The ultimate climax of this project was to be an exhibition encouraging adults to have more fun in their daily lives. This was also accompanied by promotional assets such as posters and flyers, and branded merchandise. The campaign centred around the character illustrations who embody the brand's values, and represent the research I had collected on how people have fun. I think FunFellows represents me best as a designer, as it displays expressive and lively designs in a refined and professional manner.

FunFellows - Merchandise

As part of the FunFellows campaign, I figured the brand mission must live on after the campaign's exhibition, as people should always strive to live the most enjoyable life. Hence, I created a range of branded merchandise with the key item being a colour-in t-shirt. The philosophy behind the shirt is that the individual would colour it in everyday - as it can be restored by simply washing it - as an achievable daily activity promoting fun. The selection of merchandise offer more colouring opportunities or simply represent the brand and its core values.

AlphaBlocks

AlphaBlocks is a game designed to teach children the fundamentals of the alphabet and introduce them to design principles. The objective of the game is to create the letters of the alphabet by blocking out parts of the grid with the provided pieces. I created the game by laser-cutting the pieces and grid, sanding it all down, attaching dowels to the pieces, and painting it. The game is accompanied by an instruction manual with potential solutions provided, but the beauty of the game is the freedom it allows. There are countless ways to create the letters, and endless opportunity to create original compositions.

ARSC Infographic Poster

This poster was selected by the author out of a range of works to be displayed at the Australian Road Safety Conference (ARSC).
For this project, we were tasked to design an A0 infographic poster for the ARSC in response to an academic article. Along with the poster, we were to create a social media tile and title screen for the author to use as they presented their work. My design attempts to encapsulate the topic of alcohol intoxication and hazard perception in a witty and engaging manner. I utilised a restricted colour palette to draw attention to key aspects of the poster and create a visually striking composition.

Atmospheres

For the atmospheres project, the aim was to create a photo-story which demonstrated the passing of time in an environment. The environment I chose was the cinema, and I wanted to represent the passing of time over the period of a film. I wanted to depict how you become entranced in a film while watching it and contrast it to the snap back to reality once it's over. Basing the scale around a Lego figure, I created theatre chairs out of carboard, popsicle sticks, and fabric, a theatre curtain out of fabric, and the rubbish props out of cardboard and polystyrene balls. This image demonstrates a mix of the final photo story images and individual development shots of the assets.

Jazz Movement Publication

This jazz publication was part of a project called "Marvellous Mavericks" where we were tasked to create a publication that tells the story of a movement that has impacted cultures and ways of thinking. I chose the jazz movement, and intended to represent its rich history as well as how it exists today. I used Photoshop with a strong emphasis on collage to create my compositions before arranging them in Indesign. I intended on creating engaging compositions by demonstrating the expressive character of jazz.
