Monash Art, Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition 2023

Every day I am tasked with the challenge of navigating and negotiating my way through the world before me. Time spent studying-abroad saw me engage with the cultural heritage of the people through food and eating, evoking comparisons to my own Ashkenazi heritage and the food which we consume and create. As a communication designer, I strive to explore how visual language might transform the mindset and understanding of this undertaking, to explore the roots of connection between culture, cuisine and survival.

Il Riciclaggio Della Fame (The Recycling of Hunger) - Publication Design

Il Riciclaggio della Fame delves into the culinary traditions of Italian and Jewish Ashkenazi peasantry, uncovering 14 dishes that reveal striking parallels between the two cultures. By offering my perspective as an Ashkenazi Jew residing in both Central and Southern Italy for two months, this publication sheds light on the resourcefulness and ingenuity employed in their culinary histories. You’ll discover how these cultures preserved their identities and sustained themselves despite enduring historical hardship. Whilst, unveiling the origins of some of the most iconic dishes in both Jewish Ashkenazi and Italian culinary heritage.
