Monash Art, Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition 2023

Hey, I am Tabetha, an aspiring communication designer in my second year of study. The opportunity I had to study in Prato Italy this year has had a major influence in my approach as a designer. I am passionate about tackling complex issues in my work, and participating in fun projects. My key interests are in creating dynamic brand identities that focus on combining type design and illustration. Photography is another way that I enjoy exploring themes of the human experience and human consumption. My final project ‘the things we carry’ is a photo documentary series that explores the emotional connection we have to our things.

This photograph was one of many that I displayed as part of an exhibition held at the Monash Prato centre as part of my final studio project. Black and white photography allows the viewer to reflect on their own feelings and understanding about the subject matter.

The eleven A1 prints were displayed around one of the major walkways in the centre so that the work could reach a larger audience.

The exhibition was targeted at the engagement of the whole design class that travelled to Prato this year. Each student contributed time to be an engaged part of this project.

Due to space constraints the additional thirty six photographs were displayed in a brochure that was exhibited in conjunction with the event. There were three variations of the brochure so that all photographs could be included.

Facing Extinction

In semester one I completed a forty page educational publication that spread awareness about the declining Koala populations. This publication aimed at students was designed to be direct, educational and engaging to further help spread awareness about the cause.

Phillip Island Nature Parks

Another project I completed this year was a brand revitalisation project for Phillip Island Nature Parks. The final project outcome consisted of a fifty four page document that outlined the brand strategy, guidelines and conditions of use.
