Yue Ma

HI, I'm Yue Ma and I'm a communication designer interested in illustration and graphic design. My activation project continued to explore these areas of design and attempted to communicate with the audience in a narrative way. The theme of my project is about mental health, specifically depression. This campaign project, Taking Care of Yourself, aims to educate and encourage young people to have better mental health in the future. In order to appeal to youth, the campaign will be centered around an interactive exhibition wall that will allow them to learn about mental health in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Taking care of yourself- Interactive exhibition wall

Interactive exhibition wall- primary outcome

This interactive wall allows viewers to write down things they are unhappy about and then throw them into this blue box. It is like a dumping station that recycles all the negativity.

It also provides a platform for mutual motivation with peers. Viewers can leave some motivational words for their peers in this red box. They can also get one of the notes randomly from others in this box.

In the blank area, viewers can write down their ways of regulating emotions on the sticky notes and stick them on the wall to inspire and learn from each other.

Self- care- design reasearch kit

The campaign design was generated based on the design research kit. The research kit consists of a number of activities to track, record, and collect information about young people's habits and lifestyle in the form of a diary. The aim was to explore the link between mood, lifestyle habits, and mental health.

The aim of the promotional posters is to make the exhibition known to a wider audience and to attract more visitors to visit, interact, and exchange ideas.

This outcome is a story zine that visitors can take home from the exhibition. I used storytelling to bring readers into scenarios to learn about mental health:

How long do negative emotions last before they are diagnosed as depression?

What are the ways to get rid of negative emotions?

The exhibition map is very helpful in understanding the content of the event. It is also a navigation that can lead the viewers to the exhibition hall they are looking for.
