I am Yue Yan. I actively engage in the exploration of diverse artistic styles, aiming to integrate them into my designs, thereby establishing a distinct visual language that is uniquely my own. During professional trajectory in design, I have seen that it has significantly broadened my cognitive horizons, enabling me to adopt alternative perspectives when approaching complex problems. The design process necessitates extensive brainstorming sessions to generate innovative ideas and solutions for various projects. Consequently, I have developed a profound appreciation for design as a vocation, finding immense satisfaction and fulfilment in its practice.

Love should not hurt

“Love should not hurt” is a thematic work that I chose to make after learning about the damage that domestic violence does to people. I used a strong contrast of black and white and different shades of paint to map out the damage that domestic violence does to people. The aim of my activation workshop “Love should not hurt” is to get more people out of domestic violence, to get help from others, and to get more people and organizations to pay attention to domestic violence and the people who suffer from it.

Green Book Remake Poster

The Green Book Remake Poster is a poster I modeled after a famous movie called Green Book, I used the same green toy car with a handwritten style font. The piano in the play links the two main characters with different skin colors, so I designed the car to drive on the musical score, the black and white keys of the piano form two different roads, indicating that the piano can be either a road or a fork in the road echoing the plot of the movie.

Candle packaging and light

I chose to use candles as an object and designed a package because candles contain love and romance. For the packaging of the candle, I chose to try to use the light from the candle through the openwork inside the package to decorate the wall, creating a beautiful light and shadow. I carved roses on both sides and configured a Chinese openwork window because the candle smells like roses and roses are a symbol of love, when the candle is lit, the user will see the light and smell the roses inside the room, on the outside of the package I dressed up a lot of petals, also to make the whole appearance look more dynamic.

Brunswick Music Festival Poster

The rich color palette is the signature design of the Brunswick Music Festival poster and is a key factor in drawing attention to the eye. The blue card in the middle of the image is the iconic shape of the Brunswick Music Festival, which also focuses people's attention on the festival's font at first glance. I made some cuts to the font that will make the overall look more dynamic, and I also used a lot of vibrant blues and a little bit of subdued gray to match the vibrant music event.

Portfolio Photographed Art Direction

Portfolio Photographed Art Direction is a collection of photographs combining nature, architecture, and portraits. Photography is very intuitive in graphic design and communication compared to words and language. I always think that good photography ability has a great connection to the production design and how to present the characteristics of the work. Both graphic design and photography are integral to realizing the final design result, and using good photography allows you to express your creativity in images.
