Current forms of hearing technology are imperfect and pose a myriad of issues for potential users. From sound distortions to their limited range, to user stigmas of feeling old or being seen as vulnerable, all these factors can lead to potential abandonment of hearing aid assistive technology.

The Shakelace translates sound detections behind the user (the weakest area of hearing for impaired individuals) to pulsing vibrations to the corresponding direction. The design can also be customised via magnetic accessories that allow the user to personalise the design as they see fit.
