The bull drone is purposely designed for mustering cattle. It is intended to create a safer and more efficient method of mustering. Every aspect was looked at to make the product as refined as possible, from the increased visibility for cattle’s colour blind vision, to the horn feature to increase movement pressure on the cattle. The bull drone fills a gap in an emerging market where farmers are using products not designed specifically for the task. With an easy interface and robust design, the bull can handle any challenge a farmer throws at it.

The Bull Drone

The Bull Drone is made from robust carbon fibre and ABS injection moulded plastic. the Drone features durable propeller guards and landing skid to ensure safe operation if the product is inevitably crashed. All parts are screw fixed to allow for easy replacement of parts that may break and easy access to internal components.

The Bull in context

Mustering is common practice on a livestock farm, it is the process of moving a group of animals from point A to point B. Currently this is done with a number of vehicles and animals, including quad bikes, utes, helicopters, farm dogs and horses. These options have a number of problems associated with safety risks and sustainability issues. Drones are slowly becoming an option for farmers, the Bull Drone fits a slot in the market for a product fully designed for mustering that reduces the amount of primary risks to a farmer while mustering. This is done by taking the farmer out of close contact with cattle or dangers in the paddock, seen above the drone in action.

Cattle eyesight and increased vision

Cattle have a limited vision compared to humans, they do not see red and green colours. Due to this I made the Bull with a fluorescent blue livery to improve the visibility of the drone for the cattle and the farmer piloting the drone as it has the most contrast against the green of a paddock.

Exploded View

The bull drone is made from numerous parts that interlink to create a cohesive design ready to muster a mob of cattle. Internal components fit inside the drone including the battery and flight controller. Inside is a speaker that can be sounded by the pilot to further prompt livestock to move while mustering. The farmer is able to upload any sound of their choice, such as a quad bike horn, dog bark or even their own voice.
