My name is Zhujun Yang, a student who is studying for a Double Degree in Design and Business at Monash. In the Design aspect, I specialized in Industrial design. It is my third year in Monash. I have an interest in simple but functional products, and I focus on designing products that can deal with actual problems in customers' daily lives.
Luggage storage on tram
The current design of the tram encourages people to put their bags on the floor, and have yet to think about the luggage stored on the tram. However, not only do some countries have the culture not to put the bags on the floor but luggage protection and Hygiene reason also refuses passengers to do that. In addition, there is a large amount of tourist who takes private luggage and travel to Melbourne every day which requires luggage storage place on the tram.
The project is to redesign the interior of the tram to make the passengers with luggage have a better travel experience on the tram. There are three components in my design: the normal chair, the leaning chair, and the foldable chair.
Component 1: Normal chair
With the transparent glass shelf under the seat, passengers can put their bags on the shelf to have a more comfortable travel experience.
Component 2: Leaning chair
The Leaning chair can help passengers store their small-size to middle-size suitcases under the seat. In addition, the rotatable hooks on the handle under the chair can help the passengers hang up their pages if needed.

The rotatable handle under the leaning chair can be used to hold small-sized to middle-sized suitcases when the tram moves. In addition, the rotatable hook on the handle will face toward the wall when rotated down and used to hang up the bag, which will not hurt the passengers accidentally.
Component 3: Foldable chair
The foldable chair fits the requirement of passengers who carry large luggage, such as large suitcases, prams, or wheelchairs, which helps passengers have a better travel experience.

The foldable arm beside the foldable chair can be used to hold the large size suitcase when the tram moves. In addition, the hook under the arm can be used to hang up the bag if needed.
Beside the foldable chair, there is a space left for a pram or a wheelchair. Even if the foldable chairs have passengers who don’t want to give a favor to the passengers with luggage suitcases, wheelchairs, or prams, there is still space left for them.
