I am Angela, a designer who uses design as a tool to tackle the world's difficulties. Time constrains our capacity to view a broader world. In a fictional future, people are expected to live 100 years longer than they do now. With advancements in science, we can stop aging and live longer lives. Healing Sanctuary was completed in October 2023. Two different targeted treatments are provided inside the space. As the way of extending our lives is by breaking the genes, these two treatments aim to strengthen our physical condition or maintain and protect the immune system. Through this project, I wish to share my thoughts on life and time.
Healing Sanctuary
In 2060, biotechnology will extend human life by 100 more years than now. The extension means slowing aging and living longer. Scientists inhibit the DAF-2 gene in humans through vaccine intervention, affecting our lifespan. How can people adapt to the changes in their physical bodies after their lives are extended? The design idea is to create a public urban space that monitors and cares for the physical body condition of people who completed extension. People can receive specific treatments after being checked by the body detector. This space provides two different methods for strengthening our immune system and body condition. These opportunities aim to make our ‘extension’ life better.

Non-site-specific space
This public urban space can be settled in any city or space for people who choose to extend their lives.
Support room sections
This drawing shows people’s activities inside two support rooms. The above section represents the dietary support room. People are changing the traditional way of eating and achieves the purpose of eating through sucking. The special nutrient solution is composed of plant extracts and is made for the damaged genetic system and immune system. The below section represents the medical support room. People can inject two vaccines into the human body on this automatic injection system at the same time.
Supporting installation details
To allow for a greater understanding of the specific functions of two support rooms, this diagram shows the installation of two support methods in this urban space and how they work. These two installations are designed for people who choose to extend their lives in this space.
