My name is Maya and I am an emerging designer that grew up in Sweden before moving to Australia. As a late teen, I was highly interested in interior design and the way different spaces work together in terms of functionality and flow. I have applied this to my current design processes by highly criticising and considering the flow of spaces and the way each component of it works together to create positive environments that suit the needs of a client.

Bio Fuel

“Bio Fuel” focuses on how food waste affects our environment and looks into potential solutions for the future in response to these issues. The project questions how a spatial practice could use food waste to fuel bodies with the necessary nutrients and simultaneously explore ways of encouraging a population to work towards a more sustainable and ethical future. This project is a great reflection of my passion for sustainable design.

Scandinavian living module: "Nature Retreat"

“Nature Retreat” is an experience that relates to my understanding of home and belonging. It evokes a feeling of coming back to the cold and dark forests in Sweden, the place where is spent most of my time growing up. When I think back to how life was back then, what comes to mind straight away is that unique “foresty” smell that you only get from the Nordic forests, the trees swaying in the wind and the way you always feel calm as soon as you enter those green bushy forests and the only thing you can hear is the birds chirping away in the distance. An immersive experience like this is created for people with a similar understanding of the words home and belonging.

Yellow

“Yellow” is a photography project that I created at the start of 2020. It focused on highlighting yellow aspects in our everyday life to showcase that there is always good aspects in our life around us. The colour yellow is personally a bright and cheerful colour that brings out happiness, something that was important to me to bring out for this project.
