Pause at Fed Square is a space designed to invite people to take a pause as they journey through the Federation Square area or simply to use it as a transition point from one place to the next.

It replaces the preexisting Edge Amphitheatre with adaptable zones and transit areas that target pedestrians, including students and individuals with accessibility needs who may need a more convenient way to access Fed Square than what is currently available.

Pause at Fed Square

Pause at Fed Square is designed to engage with pedestrians in response to the underutilised south side of Federation Square, while improving accessibility to the complex site.

My design approaches include referencing the iconic fractals facade of Fed Square through the fragmented roof of my project and reconfiguring the preexisting stairs in order to resolve the currently awkward rise/run ratio along with the introduction of outdoor seating and other pedestrian focused elements.

floor plan

the main floor plan of pause at fed
shows interior and exterior spaces including a multipurpose semi-open space (pavilion), a micro library and cafe, toilets, a range of seating and access points and a parklet that bridges the gap between the structure and the pedestrian pathways. It is entirely free and open to the public and can be used to host small-scale public events and activities.
