Aimed towards individuals who live alone, ‘All Together Now’ is a medium density housing proposal nestled in the inner-city suburb of Kensington, 4KM north-west of Melbourne’s CBD. This project assesses how architecture can be used to address the sociocultural frontier of loneliness.
Along with the considered embedment of community infrastructures such as co-working spaces and an on-site grocer, ‘All Together Now’ engages with the concept of the corridor – a “single-use” spatial tool intended principally for facilitating circulation – as a means of generating meaningful opportunities for interaction.

Campus
Approach from community grocer (eastern aspect) to central external corridor / walkway (western aspect). The campus-style strategy of the precinct assists in generating a community-centric atmosphere within each building.
Nodes
Precinct ground floor plan. The project creates activated corridors between key nodes to create an environment which facilitates opportunities for interaction.
Stepping
Elevation from Lloyd St (northern aspect). The buildings are stepped to facilitate light entry into apartments at the southern side of the site and reduce shadowing in the central courtyard / corridor.
Permeability
View from ground floor. Textured precast panels line the facade; the podium level is constructed with sand coloured brickwork. These materials reference the industrial site of Kensington, while the permeable balustrade encourages sight lines into the public realm.
