The New Pulse at Kensington offers a vibrant, adaptable housing alternative, attracting young residents as inner-city living becomes scarce. Departing from traditional multi-residential models, this proposal fosters community connections through dynamic public spaces and flexible housing that adapts to resident needs.

New Pulse: a high-density development

With 100-150 units, the development emphasises an active, interconnected community via seamless landscape integration and diverse building types. The site enhances connectivity to the nearby creek, blending urban and natural environments while maximising sunlight, greenery, and communal spaces.

Design Concept and Development

With the proposed concept, I crafted a series of movements within the building mass, responding to site and community needs. Each massing adjustment illustrates deliberate steps. These shifts in form are carefully considered to create an adaptable, community-focused structure that harmonises with its surroundings.

Diverse Living Options: Typical Layout Plan

The floor plan includes a meticulously designed layout accommodating varied unit types. It features two economical blocks (from left) for standard living arrangements and one luxury option (at right), ensuring economic inclusivity and architectural diversity within the compact footprint.

Integration of Vegetation from Creek to Building

The section illustrates green connections through terraces, drawing views and greenery from the creek into the building. With light wells and courtyard openings, the site benefits from increased northern light, enhancing natural illumination.

Curated ground floor

As residents make their way home, they pass through retail-lined street, continue along a a vibrant courtyard, and enter the lobby, where pocket green spaces invite interaction and relaxation, seamlessly blending nature into their daily lives.

Interior-Exterior Connection

From the interior, residents take in sweeping views of greenery that blend effortlessly with the building's edges, creating a harmonious living environment that brings the outdoors in.
