Transport Oriented Manufacturing (TOM) is an evolution of Transport Oriented Development (TOD), focused on preserving manufacturing jobs and supporting local communities. TOM will retain industrial employment as the University of Melbourne site is redeveloped, with buffer zones separating heavy industry from other uses. Pedestrian access will radiate from the proposed Melbourne Metro 2 Station, and Salmon Street will become a bus priority route. The new plan reduces travel time to Lorimer Street bus stop to 5 minutes. Wayfinding signage will direct workers to surrounding manufacturing sites.
