Hi, I'm Jingjing Cai , a communication designer who focuses on app design and loves print design and illustration. My traditional Chinese culture provides cross-cultural inspiration for my designs. In my healthy eating and food management project, I collected data through DRK, designed infographic posters, and developed three activities based on it: an app to record meals and food shelf life; a fruit calendar to promote seasonal healthy eating; and an interactive card game to educate users about diet. Through this project, I believe that communication design is about building deep connections, not just conveying information.

Design Research Kits

The design research kit I designed investigated participants' knowledge and habits about healthy eating and food waste. It focused on understanding their eating habits, meal times, how they store food, and under what circumstances they are more likely to waste food. In the design of DRK, I used color and layout to let participants enjoy a creative and interactive experience in the process of filling in the data. The use of light colors creates a relaxing atmosphere, which helps participants to stimulate creative thinking more easily. And I adopted a free space layout, leaving enough space for the answer area so that participants can stimulate more creativity.

Infographic poster

My infographic poster not only shows the differences in participants’ daily mealtimes and eating habits, but also includes food waste and food storage issues, and highlights the key factors that influence people’s daily food choices and healthy eating concepts. In my infographic poster design, the same green color, simple fonts, and clear visual hierarchy are used to ensure that the audience can easily access key information. The use of graphic elements and illustrations not only enhances the visual appeal, but also injects vitality into the design, making the overall style both simple and interesting.

Food Hero Game Packaging Box

This is the packaging box of the Food Heroes card game. I used a cute and relaxed illustration style. The patterns of fruits and food are closely related to the theme of healthy eating, while enhancing the fun and interactivity of the packaging. This design not only enhances the visual appeal of the game, but also strengthens the user's anticipation and sense of participation in the card content. The interior of the box is beautifully designed, including packaging bags for three theme cards, corresponding to the three series of food waste, food storage and healthy eating. The instructions inside the box elaborate on the rules of the game so that players can quickly get started.

Food Hero Game Card

These cards belong to the Food Heroes card game, which aims to educate users about healthy eating, food storage, and food waste in an interactive way. Each card is presented with intuitive illustrations and simple designs, which has a strong visual appeal, helping players quickly understand the content of the card, while also enhancing the interactivity and fun of the game.
1. Food Rescue Team: Help players understand how to reduce food waste.
2. Fridge Guardian: Focus on food storage skills.
3. Energy Station: Focus on healthy eating.
The game design is easy and fun, and each card contains different types of questions, allowing players to learn practical knowledge through the game.

Seasonal Fruit Calendar

The seasonal fruit calendar I designed uses illustrations to show seasonal fruits for each month, encouraging users to choose fresh ingredients according to the season. I hope to use this calendar to show a year's healthy eating journey, encouraging users to choose the most suitable seasonal fruits in their daily lives and maintain healthy eating habits. The fruit selection for each month is closely integrated with seasonal changes, helping users intuitively feel the changes in diet during the rotation of the four seasons.

Healthy Manager App

The health management app I designed has a simple and intuitive interface that helps users easily record their meal times, get healthy eating inspiration, and track the shelf life of food at home. The app interface is divided into three main pages: users record daily meal times, provide users with personalized dietary advice, and remind users of the shelf life of food to help reduce waste. The entire design aims to enhance the user experience and ensure that each function is easy to use, helping users make healthier choices in their daily lives and better manage food.
