Monash Art, Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition 2024

My name is Justin Wong, I am a 3D Artist and a Graphic Designer who is studying a Bachelor of Design and Information Technology, majoring in Communication Design and Interactive Media respectively. I specialize in making games and 3D assets but I also work with 2D graphics. I love putting a unique spin on a design while ensuring that they meet the requirements of the brief.

Video games have faced public stigma as they have grown more accessible and more mainstream, leading to common stereotypes that misrepresent their impact. In response to this, I have developed a quiz game that seeks to challenge these misconceptions by presenting intriguing facts about games that many may not know.

The game was made with Unity, a game development software using assets made in Figma and Adobe Illustrator.

The Triad

The Triad was a project that started with the idea of creating an environment that shifts moods depending on where you are. On the ground, it is a tranquil and eerie forest but if you climb the large tree in the middle, it becomes a moment of triumph after the effort of jumping from rock to rock. In the cave, the colour shifts to yellow and the landscape becomes claustrophobic and dazzling. This idea is emphasized by my use of lighting and colour to ensure each area can be easily differentiated from one another.

Flesh

Flesh is a corporate identity design for a company that produces cultivated (also known as lab grown) meat. The logo plays with the idea of “fresh food” and leans into the environmental aspect of the brand while being attention grabbing through the shock factor of the brand’s name itself.

Project Catalyst

Project Catalyst started with me wanting to try and build an environment with a linear story. A tower that is decimated by an alien force was something that intrigued me and birthed the 3D environment with a bit of verticality for small amounts of gameplay.

Candification

Candification is a 3D adventure game project, built in a team of five where I was the art director and the narrative director. The Game focuses on narrative exploration in a castle made of candies and sweets. The player explores this mysterious place, collecting journal pieces to regain lost memories and understand the castle's eerie transformation. The game combines enchanting visuals with a deeper exploration of humanity, inviting players to solve simple puzzles, interact with objects, and uncover hidden secrets and moral dilemmas as they rediscover their identity.
