This project started with a simple idea: understanding how social media truly affects our mental health. Moving into the visual representation, the centerpiece of this design is the visual metaphor of a human face, depicted in a segmented, patchwork style that reflects the fragmented self-perception fostered by social media. The bold colors represent the intense emotional spectrum we experience online, from vibrant engagement to deep isolation. The choice of stitches highlights the artificial connections and sometimes superficial bonds that social media promotes, stitching together a version of self that may not truly represent the complete person.

Sponge Software Design

Sponge was developed from insights gathered through my Design Research Kit (DRK), revealing a significant impact of social media on adolescent emotional health. Aware of the vulnerability of young people who are still shaping their identities, the app integrates Apple Watch to monitor HRV and stress levels, offering real-time emotional health insights. Sponge also provides a supportive community with forums and access to professional counselors. An optional parental update feature ensures key psychological changes are shared with guardians, balancing privacy. The soothing green palette and flower-shaped mascot enhance user comfort and engagement.
