Hello, I'm Serena, an aspiring designer and student passionate about creative works and applications. I am pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Design and Business and am currently studying for a Specialisation in Communication Design alongside a Major in Marketing. My primary aspirations are branding, marketing, and graphic design. A strength of mine is my versatility in design style and approach which is demonstrated below in my featured projects. The main project showcased is a campaign called Transparify, a portmanteau of transparent and clarify, summarising the overall goal of my campaign which is about digital security and addressing the inconsistent transparency of digital spaces.

Transparify Poster Series

The first Transparify poster addresses the poor readability of sites’ privacy policies by blurring the policy's body text, which represents the average reader's engagement, while the acceptance section remained clear which depicts the incentive and ease of which all of it can be skipped. The second addressed users on what information they have left on or have been taken by or in digital spaces which was conveyed through the alarmed figure and graphs. The third poster focused on bringing to mind what security measures people have put in place for their digital security by showing a poor case of one.

Transparify Website

The Tranparify website serves as a font of information about digital security for users so that they can make more informed decisions whilst the extension was meant to reduce the complexity of various digital sites' privacy policies in a way that would respect users’ time and leave them better informed of the inherent risks of it. Due to the digital nature of Transparify's cause, most of the outcomes for the campaign were also digital. When it comes to the site, the UI is sleek and minimalistic to maintain the modern technological aesthetic and utilises sleek capitalised fonts for easy legibility.

Transparify App/Extension

A key finding in my research for Transparify was that every participant stated that they did not feel adequately informed and secure about sites’ privacy policies and how they collect and use their data. This app and browser extension was meant to summarise online terms of service and detect what information sites were tracking which addresses the concerns of participants. The white and pale blue elements contrasted against a primarily black background forms a futuristic and technological style that gives users of the app/extension a vague sense of what the purpose of the app is at a single glance.

Our Village Brand Guidelines

For my project Not for Nothin' I completed a redesigned brand guidelines document for my randomly allocated non-profit organisation, Our Village, which deals in rehoming childcare essentials to provide children, generally between the ages of 0-6, in need. Due to the family-oriented nature of the organisation and its focus on aiding young children, I utilised a palette of various shades of aqua to inject some energy and youthfulness into the design and pinks to give it a soft, warm and welcoming feeling. The typography consists of sans serif fonts that are simplistic for easy legibility to reduce stress for viewers.

The Joys of Money and Saving Picture Book

This picture book was created to teach children between grades 2-4 about the foundations of money and encourage them to save and budget. The book has simple cartoon-like illustrations with a fun green and yellow colour palette to better appeal to the book's target demographic. The illustrations are also used as a vehicle to deliver an educational and engaging story with merry characters that appropriately explain the basics of money. The book's typography uses a legible seemingly handwritten font with certain words bolded for emphasis to make the writing more digestible and easy to follow for kids.

Palettein Billboard

Palettein is a conceptual start-up food production company that focuses on producing and innovating new ways to create meat through advanced bio-technology. In my design for Palettein’s corporate identity, I used colours reminiscent of meat and imagery that evoked a sense of hunger. For the billboard background, the image of meat set in a familiar kitchen setting gives a sense of normalcy to the concept of artificial meat. This was done to counter the perception of artificial meat being alien and unnatural, something which makes people wary of it, and instead frames it as something delicious and enticing.
