Hello, I’m Ashley. I’m a communication designer working mostly with illustration and print design however, motion graphics and brand design tickles my fancy too. I love exploring new styles and forms of expressions and I enjoy hands-on projects. I hope to delve into working closely with like-minded people who share a common love for good design, expanding my skills in digital design among other things.

My featured project “Curb” encourages people to be more conscious and purposeful when making a purchase to help curb the negative effects of overconsumption, on our environment as well as on our financial goals in the long run.

Curb [Browser Extension]

Curb was designed to help users reduce the urge to spend unnecessarily, resulting in the overconsumption of goods. It features a series of questions for users to ask themselves before purchasing an item, prompting them to give a bit more of a thought to what they are purchasing and why they are doing so, encouraging healthy spending instead of impulse buying.

Curb [Poster]

The posters developed for Curb are promotional and prompts the audience to take charge of their spendings with Curb installed on their browser. It boasts the benefits of Curb, while light-heartedly poking fun at another popular web extension that scours the web for coupon codes.

Curb [Microsite]

The Curb website features everything you need to know about how Curb works and why it exists, and that is to help users realise that they don’t have to let impulse shopping take over their finances. There is more good in changing our consumption habits than we realise, like making a positive impact on our environment, not just on our finances.

Curb [Design Research Kit]

With overconsumption being the topic of choice, the design research kit for this project was inspired by receipts in its different forms, such as invoices, diner receipts and shopping receipts. The questions range from asking about the surveyor’s spending habits, to how it affects their financial health and the environment, and their emotional connection to a product they’ve purchased.

Rattle Mouse Modular Type [Stencil Kit]

The Rattle Mouse type explores the negative space between a plane and an ellipse. It was designed to be used as a standout typeface for situations like titles, names etc. I chose to name this font “Rattle Mouse” as it is the medieval name for bats.

The font is modular, every letter (upper and lowercase) and number can be formed through the different shapes provided in the stencil. The labeling of the shapes can be seen when the stencil is lined up in the instructions sheet, which also contains the combination of shapes needed to form each letter or number.

Users are also encouraged to form their own letters and numbers from the shapes in the stencil.

ManManMian [Brand Identity]

ManManMian is a brand identity project focusing on creating a food brand based off a food memory. ManManMian stems from my love for my mom’s handmade noodle soup. The name deriving from the chinese word 慢慢 (man man) which translates to "slow" and 面 (mian) which means "noodles". The combination of these words resonates with how the noodles are made.

ManManMian’s goal is to fill a gap and provide a taste of Singapore and Malaysia to the soup noodles scene in Melbourne that is predominantly now Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese.
