A gynaecological pelvic exam is a general health examination that should be undertaken every year by all women assigned at birth, from ages 21 to 65. But due to the lack of control, daunting nature of the tools and discomfort of the overall environment, patients often avoid or fear having necessary examinations. Elevia seeks to reinvent the nature of these examinations, by putting a sense of control back into patients hands, removing the power dynamic that exists in current day examinations.

Elevia is a redefined speculum, which is the most relevant tool that is utilised within gynaecological pelvic exams. It considers the patients’ needs and the differences of each individual whilst still being intuitive and functional for practitioners to use.

The Experiences Dynamic

When the patient is ready, the doctor will let them know that they are inserting the device, and the patient will be given the hand pump.
The doctor will then insert the device and let the patient know when they are ready to start pumping. The doctor will say for example: Great the device is inserted, now can you please pump the hand pump 5 times, or take a break and let me know if you’re feeling discomfort.
Once completed, the doctor will either let the patient know the device is wide enough or ask them to inflate it a bit larger, until they can proceed. When finished, either the patient or doctor can twist the knob of the hand pump to deflate the device and remove it.

Prompts Active Guidance Between the Practitioner and Patient

Elevia allows patients to play an active role in the use of devices on their body, and initiates active guidance and conversation with the practitioner to streamline the process no matter who completes it. Here patients are invited to let the process be determined by their level of comfort, rather than being powerless in a situation that is completed the same way for everyone.

In a space so intimate, individuals deserve to be comfortable and have the process be determined at their own pace. Elevia empowers patients, enabling them to take control of the instruments used on their body, to ensure a more comfortable and overall positive examination experience.

Device Key Features

Utilising innovative technology based on existing catheter technology, Elevia's prongs are opened with a balloon that allows the device to be significantly less broad as the existing speculum, at a width similar to a tampon upon entry. This provides a much gentler experience for patients, as the inflation of air into the balloon promotes a gradual and unrushed expansion of the device.
