Alida, a third-year Art History and Curating student, created a publication exploring queer theory, the environment, and contemporary abstract art. Focusing on Raf McDonald, Emily Parsons-Lord, and CAConrad, it examines how artists engage with the natural world through queer, abstract practices. Divided into “Sharing Space” and “The Anthropocene,” it links their works to broader themes, from mould-infused canvases, to air-based explosions and to poetry rooted in physical processes.

Their Abstract Nature

This publication explores how contemporary creatives engage with the natural environment through queer, abstract practices. It focuses on works by Australian artists Raf McDonald, Emily Parsons-Lord, and CAConrad, who all use various methods in order to examine the intersection of nature and queer abstraction. Their practices highlight the expanse of the natural world and our human connection to it.
