My practice considers my personal experience with processing grief, and the different coping mechanisms found within artmaking. I explore concepts relating to the distortion of time and memory that comes with age and neurodegeneration. My works are inspired from a family member, diagnosed with dementia, who is slowly losing parts of her memory.
By using linen fabric as a base, I created acrylic paintings that reference an old quilt she made, encapsulating a nostalgic feeling, reminiscent of childhood. These images were carefully selected from the quilt, in attempts to deconstruct and recreate some of these old images and memories.
