I am a multi media artist currently working in both sculptural and digital art.
Hubris
The entire sculpture is constructed out of individually hand molded sand bricks that I had created over the course of the semester. The materials include just 3 key components to make the sand strong enough to build from. Sand, PVA glue and salt is mixed with 2L water per 20kg of sand, once mixed it is then molded into a rectangular brick shape. The name hubris refers to the spiritual nature of my art, it is supposed to invoke the ideas of a shrine or a place to worship. The hubris aspect of the art is in the way that sculpture trying to reach further higher while being made out of sand, the precarious nature of it is supposed to parallel faith and the individual.
In the spirit of reconciliation Monash University acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
