Tuesday Wilson is a Naarm based photographer living and working on Wurundjeri land. Working with digital and film photography, his practice comes out of a deep desire to connect with people. Wilson's practice has a particular emphasis on queer stories and experiences, foregrounding queer joy and bringing queerness into untraditional spaces and light.
Torso (Jules)
The heart of 'Now You' is a constellation of photographs. These photographs are medium format black and white film. 'Torso (Jules)' depicts a trans body. The subject's torso is captured in close detail emerging from a bush, providing an intimate and complex image. Viewing a physical body in such close quarters is a rare experience, to view a trans body in this way even more so. Additionally, the viewer is faced with their own desire to understand the body before them. The photographs invite the viewer to observe, and further, confront why they are compelled to do so.
Amelie
Amelie' depicts its subject in an intimate composition, rendering individual features highly visible. As if turning and listening, the subject looks away from the lens, contemplating their world beyond the place where they are perceived. 'Amelie' asserts there is no boundary between one person and another, between people and nature, nature and the wider universe, and that to study people is to study the universe itself.
