Studio leader: Jen Berean

This studio investigates the role of public art in reimagining what public space can be. Exploring a diverse range of approaches to public art, the studio shifts between scales, moving from exploring the role of public art strategies at a precinct scale, to developing detailed proposals for public art works.

The studio has been developed with Monash Art Projects (MAP). MAP is a research-led practice of artists, architects, designers and theoreticians seeking to transform how we think of art in the public sphere. MAP is keenly interdisciplinary both within the collaborative and multidisciplinary field of Contemporary Art Practice and also, crucially, across Architecture and Design.

Using the Caulfield campus and the brief of the Caulfield Creative Precinct as a site for interrogation, the studio questions what role public art can play within the development and activation of a precinct.
