The Eco City planning project studio focuses on the planning and design of ecologically sensitive urban environments by addressing such issues as climate change impacts and changing economies. This year's studio explores how adaptive planning and design strategies could address the predicted impacts of climate change in the south-west coastal region of Victoria. This region has significant environmental and landscape values, and is one of Australia’s major tourist attractions but faces growing risks to its communities, coastal ecosystems and infrastructure. How can design and planning address these changing conditions to deliver multiple community benefits while building resilience? What kinds of strategies and community and stakeholder partnerships might enable vulnerable towns to prosper into the future? This studio explores scenario-based planning that operates within the constraints of site-specific conditions towards long-term adaptation.
