I'm a graduating student of the Bachelor of Architecture.
The featured project ‘Community Wellness Precinct’ was undertaken as part of the If not MITA, Then What? Studio Masterplan.
The project aims to create a hospital in and of its community through multi-faceted facilities that supports health and wellbeing, education, and community endeavors. Ensuring the hospital, its services and broader social offerings pervade the community and draw them into the site, achieving a connection between hospital and community, beyond tradition hospital. The design optimizes views for patient comfort by incorporating natural light and long sightlines and expansive views of nature and the outside world.

Community Wellness Precinct
The urban development offers a vertical campus that enhances its ability to forge powerful connections and collaboration. This new precinct has been designed as a destination for the broader community beyond tradition hospital use and not just for MITA facility residents, through the provision of supplementary spaces and community orientated facilities, adding to the activation of the precinct and commercial viability. The permeability of the site has been carefully designed to place pedestrian access and flow at the forefront ensuring the site remains legible to the public and can be traversed without compromising the security or privacy of the formal health and hospital functions.

Site Buildings
The precinct is comprised of 4 new buildings (The Hospital itself, the Community Realm, and the Corporate Hub which is a shared facility for both staff and patients of Nada’s program and the hospital), the Beyond Health Centre and a central open campus green space organized in a fine grain urban condition that ensures an abundance of light whilst simultaneously providing welcoming and human scaled spaces.

Main Entrance/Reception
The detailed design of the facades, and interior spaces considers environmental responses as well as optimized views, for patient comfort and clinician experience by incorporating extensive natural light and long sightlines, with surprising glimpses of expansive views of nature and the outside world.

Architectural Form
The architectural form of the hospital, neighboring buildings and the central landscape projects an organic and less institutional language. It can be perceived as a supple series of structures and spaces that wrap and fold together to enclose and protect the vital functions taking place within. By introducing a series of stepped back buildings, the mass is broken down into three main components unique the urban fabric of Broadmeadows, with terraces acting as a visual and physical break while the tower acts as a refined built element crowning the facility and providing its wider visual impact.

Hospital Drop Off
As the main access point to the hospital, the drop off area is the only vehicle centric location on site above ground. As the permeability of the site has been carefully designed to place pedestrian access and flow at the forefront ensuring the site remains legible to the public and can be traversed without compromising the security or privacy of the formal health and hospital functions.

Ground Floor Plan
The precinct has been designed as a synthesis of 6 project objectives; those being creating a people-centered precinct, contextual and connected, safe and inclusive, calm and an inspiring oasis, functional and integrated as well as sustainable and enduring.
The masterplans design offers a campus approach to the site structure with a clear hierarchy and positive disposition of built form across the site providing new and sustainable links for a growing and evolving Broadmeadows.
The hospital itself houses 571 patient bedrooms, split across 8 different departments. The single patient rooms offer privacy and comfort for patients as health can be a taboo subject in particular cultures.
