The Industrial Loop explored clusters of key industries (car manufacturing, home improvement) surrounding the Clayton campus in order to create better synergies between research and productive a powerhouse. This would allow reconnecting innovation and research, expanding interaction and collaboration, while introducing electronic bike pathways in between the campus’ research facilities, automotive and home industries. Two innovation centres would create the missing link, while housing workshops, labs, testing and exhibition spaces to draw engagement from both private institutes and the surrounding neighbourhoods.

Through several investigations, we identified a significant disconnects between the Monash campus and surrounding industrial precincts. Several key industries miss a synergetic relation with Monash research. This helped identify 2 key intervention areas: Automotive and Home Improvement industries, where new facilities could host shared innovation centres use by both University and Industry.

This map explores the existing industry typologies, and their internal collaboration with Monash University. Studies of existing networks of transportation systems vary in time and distance.

The mapping out of the gap helped determine an ideal location for our interventions, in accordance with our proposed electrical bicycle pathway system, connecting to the new railway station

Axonometric Views
The geometries of the Automotive Hub and The Home Hub have been designed so that different spaces directly address the major industries and research institutions they address. The intention is to create strong visual connections. Besides, public connectivity is formed through shared community spaces that are shared between our new interventions and surrounding buildings and connect interior and exterior activities.
Sections
The section shows the interaction between people and programs through the use of stacking between each blocks which allows enough porosity for stronger visual connection. Besides, windows are placed on both sides to allow sufficient permeability for sunlight and interaction of multiple programs, in addition sky windows are introduced to create natural lighting.
