The underground presents itself as an alternative environment to expand our growing metropolis and look for new opportunities in a sheltered environment, as we battle the immediate problem that is climate change. By taking the physical environment that currently exists, we can restore our natural environments and protect non-human habitat and a more sustainable way of living. ‘underroads’ provides an opportunity for urban expansion within prebuilt environments, enhancing the physical environments of old and providing the infrastructure for the future, in a carefully considered, environmentally viable and sustainable footprint cantered around the health and fitness programs of Monash.
