RED RUBBLE

With the longevity of masonry being well appreciated and noted amongst Melbourne’s urban landscape, the idea of designing with this material for future use explored within this project. The collaboration of mixed masonry symbolises a combining of old techniques with new materials and the building stands as a symbol of the wider rubble problem we have in our cities as a result of construction and mining industries.
This project seeks to celebrate traditional masonry with a contemporary twist that is designed to grow as the community does; becoming a landmark within the urban fabric.

CONCEPTUAL APPROACH

GROUP WORK/ in collaboration with Ayden Fiore, Daryl Neff & Matt Smith.

The premise of the project looks to the current state of our cities/industries and their associated issues. Australia must react to the modern material problem with inter-industry waste being abundant.

BACKGROUND RESEARCH

GROUP WORK / in collaboration with Ayden Fiore, Daryl Neff & Matt Smith.

A composite future for materials which combines bi-products, geology, and construction waste. This research uncovers the site specific architectural outcomes that are possible with our system.

THE SYSTEM

GROUP WORK / in collaboration with Ayden Fiore, Daryl Neff & Matt Smith.

The construction system formed through a specific typology and materially driven approach. The system itself applied in construction through the use of advanced manufacturing and material innovations.

COMPONENTS

GROUP WORK / in collaboration with Ayden Fiore, Daryl Neff & Matt Smith.

The elements conform to the structural arrangement of the system, with the formal language of the design highlighted through unreinforced masonry.
